Located on a site with dramatic Mt. Ascutney views, the Vermont Hilltop Garden was designed to encompass a diverse range of activities and site conditions. Property improvements included a new entry drive, horse riding ring, swimming pool, tennis courts, stone walls, fencing, as well as a series of riding and hiking trails physically linking the site's amenities. Several existing features, including a barn, pond, and hedgerow were preserved and incorporated into the context of the new garden spaces. Large, bold swathes of native perennials, overlapping hedges, and herbaceous borders were used to define a multitude of landscape spaces, including herb and viewing gardens. The gardens function as transitional rooms between the main residence and the swimming pool area.
